The wild Tusker known as Arikomban who has been the subject of news and controversy during the recent past has been captured once again. This time he has been captured by Tamil Nadu Forest Officials at about 12.30 a.m, today i.e., the 5th of June 2023 when he was spotted near Poosanampatti and deemed a threat to the people of the region. The Tamil Nadu Government is expected to assess his health condition before deciding on translocating him.
He was tranquilised by the officials who then loaded him into a special vehicle used to transport wild elephants and is said to be journeying to Mudanthurai. It is said that Arikomban would most probably be shifted to the Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve near the Karaiyar Dam in Tirunelveli after a thorough assessment of his health and other factors is made.

The Tusker was earlier shifted from the Chinnakanal region during the last week of April and subsequently strayed into the Tamil Nadu Forests a couple of weeks after that. During the last week of May he entered into the Town of Cumbum and caused panic leading to the death of a person on May 27th.
It has been reported that the elephant would be relocated if the elephant is declared healthy and not in need of any subsequent treatment. In case, it is determined by Veterinarians that Arikomban is in need of further treatment and not in a condition to travel he will be relocated near the Megamalai Forests where he will be tended to by doctors.
